We finally saw Xbox take a step ahead of PlayStation in sales for the first time regarding the new consoles.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, Xbox Series X/S outsold PS5 in Europe for February, and this is the first time it's ever happened.
It has nothing to do with popularity or a switch in gamer preference. Xbox took advantage of supply chain problems, and the Series S was way more available than Series X or PS5, which helped boost their sales. Like North America, PS5 is extremely hard to come by in Europe at the moment. While Series S took advantage of the market, the Nintendo Switch dominates the European market and has held substantial sales numbers since its debut in 2017. However, this could change if Xbox and Sony can ever keep up with supply demands.
Xbox Series X/S continues to enjoy better numbers than its previous consoles, Sony PS5 has dominated North American sales numbers and outsold Xbox 1.7 times during 2021. Just like in Europe, the availability of the stronger Series X machine has hurt Xbox sales in North America, while the more available Series S has helped boost Xbox sales numbers.
