Fans of DC Comics will have to wait a little bit longer to play the upcoming title Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Earlier this week, Sefton Hill, creative director of the gaming giant Rocksteady Studios and the developer behind the famed Batman: Arkham series, announced that Kill the Justice League has been delayed until spring 2023. Hill took to Twitter to address the delay, which had been rumored for over a month prior to the studio’s official announcement.
In his post, Hill acknowledged that delaying the game would be very frustrating for fans but said that the studio needs extra time to make the best game possible. Thanking fans for their patience, Hill concluded his message by saying that he is looking forward to bringing chaos to the streets of Metropolis, the game’s setting and the hometown of the Man of Steel himself, Superman.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a spinoff of 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight, the final chapter of Rocksteady’s critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham trilogy. The game’s plot is driven by an invasion of Metropolis by the Superman villain Brainiac. As the story unfolds, gamers learn that Brainiac has brainwashed the Justice League, including Superman, Green Lantern, and the Flash, to lead his conquest of the city. Unable to repel the invasion with conventional tactics, the world turns to the Suicide Squad to stop of the Justice League and thwart Brainiac’s invasion.
Among the antiheroes that gamers will be able to control in the upcoming title are Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang. In gameplay footage released last December at the Game Awards, Rocksteady showed that each character has their own unique combat style, such as Harley Quinn’s acrobatics and King Shark’s brute force. The developer has also confirmed that Kill the Justice League features a multiplayer mode for up to four players at a time. Should a gamer choose to play the title alone, the other three characters will be controlled by AI. Solo mode also allows players to change character at will, even during battles. Owing to the game’s placement in the Batman: Arkham universe, players are also expecting characters from past titles to appear in the new entry, with famed villain the Penguin already confirmed to make an appearance.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be released on all major platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S.
