Even though Call of Duty: Vanguard only came out last year, the team at Sledgehammer Games is already working on a new one. Sources told Exputer that pre-production has begun on Sledgehammer Games' next Call of Duty title. However, Exputer's sources revealed no details. It's looking like they'll likely stick with Vanguard; as Sam Maggs had previously revealed to the public at Comic-Con 2021, they had more stories to tell "we have two more stories that we want to tell with these characters."

There's currently nothing close to a window release as the team is still working on updates, patches and bug fixes for the current title and looking to create new content. Despite earlier reports by Bloomberg that there won't be any CoD releases until 2023, that's been shot down by an Activision spokesperson. "We have an exciting slate of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year, and beyond. Reports of anything otherwise are incorrect. We look forward to sharing more details when the time is right."

The game was released in November of 2021 and received mostly positive feedback, especially for its multiplayer settings; however some criticism for Zombie mode. Since then, it has received a couple of updates, including the April update, which features Snoop Dogg as a playable character and marks a growing relationship between Snoop and CoD on multiple levels.

The game is currently available for Windows, PS 4 & 5, and Xbox One & Series X/S. Despite some disappointing sales numbers, the game took home the Visual Effects Society Awards' trophy for "Outstanding Visual Effects in a Real-Time Project."
