The worlds of Pokemon and ASMR videos have collided to create some satisfying new videos.
ASMR "autonomous sensory meridian response" are videos that can satisfy your brain.
Every Pokemon has its unique sound, and there are sites dedicated to showcasing them; now, Pokemon Japan has officially jumped in the ring with some ASMR videos.
It all started in 2020 when the video team in Japan released a 30-minute video of Charmander sleeping by a fire which he occasionally wakes up to keep going with his tail. The video currently has 3million views on Youtube, and the success during its initial release led them to create another just a couple of months later.
Eight months later, the Pokemon Japan team put together a 15-minute video of Squirtle on a beach and includes ocean sounds, waves, and body parts in the sand. Their second video even had a quick flyby by Wingull. Since then, multiple videos have been released featuring Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Piplup and more.
The fascinating thing about it is that these videos are released by the official Pokemon Japan's Youtube channel and appear with other mainstream content like game trailers.
IGN was able to contact the team in Japan and ask them why they created the videos in the first place.
"The Pokémon Company’s channels didn’t have any long length videos when the demand for them were high for people to watch while they did something else (or were working)," the spokesperson said. "In addition, one of Pokémon’s strengths is that people can feel their existence closely, as you can see in the popular Pokémon GO game in which you can catch Pokémon in real life. We thought there was a demand for something that you can feel close to within videos.
"Considering this, we came to a conclusion of making these videos utilizing the ASMR format that was already popular on YouTube. We thought there was potential in producing videos in which sound is the protagonist and the existence of the sound can be felt."
