Konami has been connected to some of the most popular franchises over the last couple of decades, and it seems they might be bringing one back for some new action.
The company has recently registered many trademarks, and it includes one of its most popular games, which was cancelled back in 2015. Even though some of the game's best creators like Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus left the franchise, Konami recently registered Silent Hill trademarks. Tokimeki Memorial, Fantasy Water Margin Den, Flogger and Gradius were also registered, but all attention is on Silent Hill.
What's remarkable is some of the trademark categories and commodities, which include "Headset for virtual reality," "game software," and "exercise skill training simulator." Not only does it look like Konami has plans for a new Silent Hill game, but it looks like it's going to be highly interactive and possibly even VR-eligible.
The hope is that means a new game is on the way; however, it could also just be a defensive move because Konami had previously let the Silent Hill trademark expire, and someone tried to take it as a troll move. Despite the trademark registration, there's been absolutely no indication from Konami publicly that they plan to revive the popular Silent Hill franchise.
When Konami started development with an external studio last year for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, fans hoped the same might be done for Silent Hill. With the recent trademark registrations, it's just another clue that Silent Hill could be on its way; jumping into the foggy world of Silent Hill wearing a VR headset would put the game back at the forefront of the gaming world.
