The hacking group known as Lapsus$ has taken over headlines for the last month after claiming responsibility for hacks against Nvidia, Microsoft, Ubisoft, Samsung and Vodaphone.
We learned last week that one of its members is a 16-year-old boy from London, and according to the latest updates, he seems to be one of the group's leaders, and his cyberattacks have led him to grab $14million.
"Seven people between the ages of 16 and 21 have been arrested in connection with an investigation into a hacking group," the London Police Force said. "They have all been released under investigation. Our inquiries remain ongoing."
There was no confirmation if it's the same 16-year-old who's been talked about in headlines. The boy was exposed by a rival hacking group that published his home address and other information.
BBC was able to speak with the boy's father, who revealed that his son is autistic and attends a special needs school.
"He's never talked about any hacking, but he is very good on computers and spends a lot of time on the computer. I always thought he was playing games," he said.
"We're going to try to stop him from going on computers."
Fellow hackers claim that the boy has accumulated about 300 worth of Bitcoin through cyber attacks.
"After a few years, his net worth accumulated to well over 300BTC [close to $14m]… [he is now] affiliated with a wannabe ransomware group known as 'Lapsus$', who has been extorting & 'hacking' several organisations," fellow hackers claimed.
