We recently got our first image for Netflix's upcoming Resident Evil Series. It's one of about ten shows coming out over the next two years based on popular video games.
Resident Evil will debut on July 14 and will differ a bit from the previous movies at it'll focus on Albert Wesker and his two daughters, Billie and Jade Wesker, bouncing between two timelines.
Resident Evil isn't the only big name that will come out in the upcoming years.
Check out a list below of some of the most anticipated upcoming shows based on video games.
Splinter Cell:
Another show that's going to be coming out on Netflix, this series will be based on Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell franchise. Unlike Resident Evil going in the live-action format, Splinter Cell will be an animated series. So far, we know it's guaranteed to be at least eight episodes and stars Sam Fisher.
The Last Of Us:
With Netflix continuously pushing out content, HBO has decided to step into the ring with their first TV series based on a video game. Lined up for a 2023 release, HBO has been working on a show based on The Last Of Us.
This one is intriguing because it will star Pedro Pascal, who plays the Mandolorian. Pascal will play Joel, and Bella Ramsey'll join him as Ellie. The series will be placed on the events of the first game.
Knuckles From Sonic:
Following the success of Sonic on the big screen, Paramount+ will be taking the Sonic universe to the small screen with a Knuckles spinoff. They're taking it pretty seriously, too, as Idris Elba, who voiced Knuckles in the movie, will hold the same role for the TV show.
Assassin's Creed:
It's another strong play by Netflix, as they're also putting together a live-action show for Assassin's Creed. Interestingly, Jeb Stuart, who wrote the original Die Hard screenplay, has been hired to write this project. Chatter across social media has connected the dots between Stuart writing the Vikings: Valhalla series and the Viking-themed Assassin's Creed game. Netflix has yet to reveal any details, though.
Tomb Raider:
While Netflix is making noise for their live-action dreams, they've also got some animated series in the pipeline. One of those is a Tomb Raider animated series described as an anime series that will take Lara Croft to never before seen territories. Powerhouse will be putting together the project for Netflix after receiving lots of praise for their Castlevania series.
Twisted Metal:
The Peacock streaming service makes its first appearance on the list as it will deliver to the world a live-action TV show based on the legendary Twisted Metal game. Anthony Mackie from Falcon fame will play a milkman who can't remember anything from his past and in a deadly car combat tournament.
"' Twisted Metal' is one of PlayStation's most beloved franchises," said Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. "We are thrilled to have such an amazing creative team and partners who have passion for this iconic property. We can't wait for fans to see what we have planned for them."
Live-Action Pokemon Series:
Following the success of the Detective Pikachu movie, Netflix has reportedly put together a team for live-action Pokemon series. Netflix has made many of their announcements official; however, there's no confirmation on this yet. Variety was able to dig up that Joe Henderson, an executive producer on Lucifer, will write and produce the series.
Fallout:
Amazon makes its first appearance on the list as they get together with Bethesda for a live-action version of Fallout. It hasn't entered production yet but is set to get rolling later this year. So this should be something to watch, and Walter Goggins will be involved.
God of War:
Amazon is setting itself up with some high expectations as they'll also be looking to deliver on a live-action version of God Of War. This one hasn't been confirmed yet, but Deadline did reveal ongoing negotiations.
Which of these are you most looking forward to watching?
