Maybe one of the worst kept secrets, but it's now official. Infinity Ward has confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and revealed the official logo.

To clarify, this will be a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare reboot and not a remake of the 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. In-house, the game has been labelled "the most advanced experience in franchise history" and will include some groundbreaking innovations and gameplay as they've rebuilt it.

Speculation is building that the game will feature Task Force 141, the special ops team featured in most Modern Warfare games. It would line up with the suggestion at the end of the 2019 game that their mission was not yet complete. It's also interesting to note that Barry Sloane, who plays Captain Price in the franchise, shared on Twitter the release announcement along with the looking-eyes emoji, which would be an apparent heavy suggestion he's involved in the game.

No details regarding the game have been revealed; however, rumours floating on the internet point to the game focusing on US soldiers taking on Colombian drug cartels and could take place in South America. It stems from CoD insider Tom Henderson revealing that the game was codenamed "Project Cortez."

We should likely have a flood of Call of Duty news coming up with the approval of the Activision Blizzard sale to Microsoft. While it might get shareholders' approval, the deal could still come under scrutiny from the government.
