Earlier this year, we learned some excellent news about leaks regarding a Goldeneye64 remake. Finally, a year after an unfinished Goldeneye for Xbox Live Arcade leaked online, newly revealed information shows that we could be ready to go soon.
Unfortunately, while things continue to look up and up, it sounds like it's buried for a bit because of the current Russian invasion of Ukraine. As Jeff Grubb points out, there's a heavy Russian military presence in the game, which would be in bad taste at the moment.
"I wish I could get an answer on this unannounced thing, but I think that if it were planned to be announced, that's probably been put on hold due to GoldenEye's Soviet/Russian-military-heavy plot and characters" Grubb Tweeted.
While the announcement might be on hold now, it's interesting to point out that the 25th anniversary of the game's release on N64 comes on August 25, 2022. This year is James Bond's 60th anniversary, and the official 007 Twitter account has already hinted at significant announcements throughout the year, which hopefully includes the GoldenEye game.
