It's one of the most popular games, and the numbers back it up easily. MiHoYo's RPG Genshin Impact has made over $3billion globally through consumer spending in the Google Play and App Store.
The game has been a money-making machine as a recent report by Sensor Tower also reveals that the game has made on average $1billion every six months since its release in 2020. It took exactly 171 days for the game to generate its first $1billion on mobile.
Sensor Tower also put together data by location. For example, China is the #1 revenue-generating country for the game spending $973.3 to Date, equivalent to 30.7 percent of global player spending. With 23.7 percent of lifetime income, Japan comes second, followed by the United States with 19.7 percent. While Genshin Impact is a worldwide success, most of its money is generated in Asia, which amounts to about 70% of total player spending to date.
Apple users in China have been pumping money into the game, with 65.7% of its revenue generated in the App store compared to 34.3% in the Google Play store. However, it's much more balanced outside of China, with 50.5% coming from the App store and 49.5% from Google Play.
Genshin Impact is still one of the most profitable mobile games globally, bringing in an average of $1 billion every six months. Players are still very active, with average global monthly active users growing by almost 44% year over year in Q1 2022. In addition, MiHoYo's excellent live ops approach has the game expected to hit over the $4 billion mark later this year.
