It wasn't the announcement fans were hoping for. Instead of an announcement regarding the preview date for the Genshin Impact 2.7 update, Genshin Impact told fans that both the preview and update were delayed.
It's not exactly a shocking announcement for hardcore fans after Spices From the West was previously cancelled. Marvellous Merchandise will replace the Spices From the West event and end on May 13. It slowed down the previous momentum the game had been rolling with a new version every six weeks. The biggest hype so far around the 2.7 updates was the expected appearance of Yelan and Kuki Shinobu. Yelan is a new Hydro character from Liyue, while Kuki is from Inazuma and manipulates the Electro Element.
There's some chatter circulating that the delay is related to the COVID lockdowns happening in Shanghai over the last little while. There's been a real surge in positive cases, and the city was in complete lockdown over certain periods during the last month.
Here's Genshin Impact's official announcement that they posted on Twitter:
Dear Travelers, Due to project progress, the Version 2.7 update will be postponed. For detailed information on the date of the new update, content adjustment plan, and compensation, please stay tuned for upcoming announcements.
We will provide the corresponding information to Travelers as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. Thank you for your support and understanding along this journey.
Fans can expect more details soon and, more than likely, some compensation in the form of Primogems because of the delays.
