Harry Potter fans will soon be able to explore the Wizarding World like never before with Hogwarts Legacy. Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy will allow gamers to create their own character and face the wonders and tribulations of being a fifth year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In a recent gameplay showcase, developers revealed that the new title will take place in the late 1800s, long before the rise of the dark lords Grindelwald and Voldemort. Despite the absence of the franchise's two big bads, gamers will still have plenty to contend with as they explore J.K. Rowling's sprawling universe, including a goblin rebellion and a rising darkness that could consume all of the Wizarding World.

 

 

Gameplay footage provided by Avalanche confirms that the new title will be an RPG and allow players to attend classes at Hogwarts, brew potions, and engage in duels. In addition to Hogwarts itself, players will also be able to explore the countryside around the famed school and even visit the nearby village of Hogsmeade. As players hone their skills, they will discover that they have a unique ability uncommon to even the most powerful wizards: the ability to manipulate ancient magic. Faced with this burgeoning power, players are given the option of following the path of light or embracing the allure of the shadows and becoming a dark wizard.

Hogwarts Legacy does not currently have a release date, but developers say that the title will be on store shelves in time for the holiday season. The game will be available on all major platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Nintendo Switch.
