The Saints Row remake is no secret, as it was officially announced at Gamescom in August 2021. Unfortunately, once Volition started posting screenshots from the remake, fans weren't too happy about a couple of things, specifically the art design.
Despite the high volume of complaints, Volition has said it's moving on with the project without changing some of the things people are complaining about and has since released a couple of trailers for the game.
Popular gaming insider Tom Henderson recently compiled everything he's heard about the remake so far into one article, and it looks like it's going to be a wild game.
Here are some of the key features that Henderson revealed in his article.
Flow: Set to be a point-based feature where you earn points from using abilities in contact and dishing out damage to enemies. "For a simplified example, killing ten enemies and destroying five vehicles might grant you 15,000 damage points, equal to 1.5 Flow Points which you can then use to use your abilities. "
Abilities: This ties in with flow because you'll need flow points to use special abilities. The more you level up through the game, the more abilities you'll be able to use.
Examples of some Abilities:
- Surprise – Throw a grenade down an enemies pants and throw them into more enemies causing a large explosion.
- Flaming Uppercut – Uppercut an enemy and launch them into the air.
- Ninja – Throw a smoke bomb down in order to lose enemies.
Perks: There are five individual perk slots for your character, with the first unlocking after your first mission; the rest reportedly will need to be purchased from the in-game cash system. The more in-game exploring and completed challenges will give you more perks for your character.
These Perks are broken up into three different categories:
- Basic – Includes small game-changing advantages that you might benefit from in specific scenarios including moving faster whilst crouching, moving faster whilst aiming down sight, etc.
- Advanced – Includes slightly more beneficial advantages including the likes of a 50% health increase after an Execution or a percentage increase to your Flow earnings.
- Ultimate – Includes the more ridiculous advantages, such as being able to call in missiles to blow up an area.
Execution: This is a health-based system, and it can get boosted by getting kills and handing out some severe damage. Not only does it help your character, but it'll also help boost your vehicle. As Henderson points out, everything in the game will be intertwined, so dealing big blows to another vehicle will boost your vehicle health and increase your flow, which opens the door for new perks.
Customization: This was a big focus during one of the trailers, as you'll be able to customize your vehicles and your characters. Henderson's sources who have already played the game have said the customization is like nothing else in any other game.
Fast Travel: This is an exciting new feature that GTAV players would likely love. Just take a picture of any monument in the game, and you can then fast travel to that location anytime during the game.
Collectibles & Dumpster Diving: This time, collectibles will be drug piles, unlike the blowup dolls featured in Saints Row 3. You'll also be able to find cash, car part and more if you go dumpster diving around the city.
Criminal Ventures: These will be all the fun stuff you can do, as insurance fraud, stealing food trucks that sell drugs, breaking into bank vaults, etc. Completing any of these will unlock abilities, perks, cash and more.
Not official yet, but Henderson adds that it's expected the game will feature multiplayer mode but will likely only come sometime after launch.
