After going digital last year, E3 has decided to cancel their 2022 event.
E3 was very open about not hosting an in-person event for 2022 because of lingering COVID concerns, and some believed a digital version would likely happen again.
However, like in 2020, E3 has decided to cancel the event.
"We previously announced that E3 would not be held in person in 2022 due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19. Today, we announce that there will also be no digital E3 showcase in 2022," the ESA said. "Instead, we will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer."
Many believe that this could lead to the demise of E3 as companies continue to move toward hosting their events.
E3's 2022 cancellation doesn’t mean Summer Game Fest or the Game Awards are going anywhere. Geoff Keighley, who hosts the events, confirmed that they would have a live showcase.
