Russia's continued attack on Ukraine continues to be the biggest storyline worldwide, headlining every news outlet and the most talked about topic on social media. We've seen companies and banks worldwide set sanctions on Russia in whatever way they can to show support for Ukraine. As a result, many leading corporations worldwide have pulled activities from Russia for now.
Major video game companies have followed the lead, and here are some key actions they've taken.
Nintendo
Nintendo halted all sales and shipments of products to Russia for the "foreseeable future."
"We have decided to suspend shipping all Nintendo products to Russia for the foreseeable future," Nintendo told IGN. "This is due to considerable volatility surrounding the logistics of shipping and distributing physical goods."
The Nintendo eShop has also placed the Russian eShop in maintenance mode indefinitely.
PlayStation
Sony has also stopped all shipments and sales in Russia, making it clear that it supports Ukraine.
"Sony Interactive Entertainment joins the global community in calling for peace in Ukraine" a spokesperson said "We have suspended all software and hardware shipments, the launch of Gran Turismo 7, and operations of the PlayStation Store in Russia."
Sony has also made a $2million donation to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the NGO Save The Children showing support for those affected by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Microsoft
Microsoft announced the same type of news when it shut down sales of all its products and services in Russia because of the invasion. Not only for Xbox but for all Microsoft products.
"Like the rest of the world, we are horrified, angered, and saddened by the images and news coming from the war in Ukraine and condemn this unjustified, unprovoked, and unlawful invasion by Russia," Microsoft president and vice chair, Brad Smith, wrote in a blog post. "We are announcing today that we will suspend all sales of Microsoft products and services in Russia."
The three major companies aren't the only ones as Bandai Namco, Niantic, Necrosoft Games, Itch.io, Epic Games, Activision Blizzard, Sad Cat Studios, Remedy Entertainment, EA, Bloober Team, The Pokemon Company, Devolver Digital, John Romero, GSC Game World, Avalanche Studios Group, Unity, Plarium, Ubisoft, Embracer Group and more also announced actions.
